Chicago air conditioning

On Wednesday night what seemed like a minor storm whipped through Saint Louis causing major power outages. The next day was the hottest of the year. We had been planning a trip to Chicago for the weekend, but couldn't stand the heat and left a day early.

Chicago beach
We didn't have much choice but to bring Ollie along since no one we knew had power and both Melissa's and my parents had been put on a boil order due to contamination at their water plant.
So, it was an experience to have Ollie the big clunky dog on vacation with us in Matt and J'aime's apartment where Wasabi, their cat, was hiding in the back room the whole time. We made the best of it, as you can see in the "Ollie in disguise" posting.

Melissa at Margie's Candies
On Friday we went to Margie's Candies, a Chicago ice cream treasure, if only for their home-made hot fudge. Mmmmmmmmmm.

We visited another ice cream shop in Skokie that had some unusual flavors like Purple Yam, Jackfruit, Avacado, Halo-Halo (traditional Fillipino desert), etc.
We also experimented with beer floats after reading a Reader article about it. We made ours with Lambak framboise (raspberry sweet beer) and vanilla. It was surprisingly delicious. Even Ollie loved it, that's him clean up the beer float glass in the "Ollie licks glass" posting.
Melissa in saari
We visited an Indian neighborhood and Melissa and J'aime got saari's.

Mike spins
Mike had a party on Sunday that was a nice farewell for us.
Good food, drinks and friends. Mike spun some records and we all got funky.
