Mardi Gras

This past weekend was Mardi Gras 2006 in St.Louis. Who knows if it was bigger than New Orleans this year, but it was bigger than it had ever been. We saw some crazy shit not to mention lots of topless women.

This girl couldn't figure out what was going on.

It's an odd thing to walk around the streets boozing it up with tons of other people. I had (3) 48oz. cups of beer. Needless to say, I was wasted. I really over did it. But that's what it's all about, right?

Ollie got trashed too and kept flashing his boobs to get beads.

My Brotha

Matt popped the question on Jaime's birthday, Feb. 17th.

This is the ring they went out and got. They described it as a "meta" ring. It's a symbol of an engagement ring. Therefore, a symbol of a symbol.

The wedding is planned for Summer 2007 in Italy. We're saving every penny now.

Art Whore

We finally picked up the Papal Dickhead that we bought from the gallery last week. I think I forgot to tell the story about the gallery owner Philip Slein yelling downstairs to someone "Do we have a Papal Dickhead?!" There were some old people browsing stuff in the gallery right next to him that busted up laughing.

After picking up our art we joined the First Friday gallery walk. There's a really neat fair trade import store where we found another object that we had to have. This flying frog is from Bali. I could look up the origin myself, but I'll ask for help. If anyone can tell me what it means (the mythology), or make up a believable answer, that would be much appreciated.

Study for a painting...

Had an old friend of mine over last night to draw. It was just like old times. Non stop drawing concentration, except without the smoke and hallucinations... Okay, it was almost as good. I've been planning a painting for some time now. I finally got down to making some studies for it last night. It's based on a dream, so that should explain the lack of realistic content.

On a slightly different note (in the same key), Melissa and I went to a gallery over the weekend to catch the show before it came down. The artist is Tom Huck, an amazing wood block printer. The Philip Slein Gallery, one of the best here in the STL was blowing out the prints, so we bought one. (It's in the dickhead series; "Papal Dickhead") It was our first major art purchase, and I'm very happy with it. I don't ever plan to sell the piece, but I know the value is going to skyrocket. Tom Huck is collected by the Whitney museum, The Art Institute of Chicago, Saint Louis Art Museum, and many more. Tom also did the cover of The Roots Phrenology.
